Another day in purgatory
I have never seen such an un-American group of people in my life. These people are completely unwilling to allow their kids to even look into the Army---do they not realize that if they keep blocking us from talking to their kids, ultimately there will be a draft? This means that the technical job that little Johnny wanted will no longer be an option...that little Johnny will then become a grunt, because that's what the Army wants him to be. If my son were older (he's 4), I'd rather he had the opportunity to choose his Job rather than be pigeonholed into a combat arms job, where he would then definitely go to Iraq and be kicking down doors. I mean, if you're going to ultimately be faced with the possibility of going to war in Iraq anyway, why not do it on your own terms?
Just to catch you up on things. I am a detail recruiter...this means that I get to go back to the REAL Army in a few years. All I have to do is survive out here for a little while (30 more months). These are some of the things I have had to contend with recently:
Mom tells me that everything I will tell her is a lie, that the 3rd and 4th-hand information she has gotten is more accurate than anything I might say. Talk about passing judgement.
Kid really wants to join, but is not completely up-front with me about law violations. After two weeks of work, I find out kid is unqualified. Station Commander tells kid; kid is heartbroken; SSG Me feels like crap.
Anyway, this is just the last few weeks. In future blogs I will try to be more detailed. If are a soldier or know any soldiers considering recruiting---DON'T DO IT!
